This song is sung from the point of view of death. Pierre and I were down by the Hudson River with the guitar, talking about the cinematic images of death flying over the water towards the city lay full of denizens doomed to die. That imagery informed the intro and flying/rolling sound of the guitar line. The other aspect of this is the bar room drinking song and the thought of happy drunkards celebrating life; only in this case they are celebrating the inevitability of death.
Although this song was written for Shell, with subsequent revisions of the script, this song was cut. It remains my favorite.
