This song remains somewhat of an engineering and producing triumph for me. Like What’s Back There? the production value is high. In particular, the use of Jeff Hook’s drum samples (engineered by Matt Morgan) help give it a live flavor.

At the end of their tenth year, all children are called into testing. This test will determine their place in society for the rest of their lives. Yes, it is a bit Brave New World but these children are not genetically predetermined into category and class; they are born and raised and then tested. Jacob sings the verses and is comforting Simon who is a spiritual savant and is unable to control his maddening perception of the plurality of things.

John and I have at least temporarily abandoned The Truth of One and are planning on recycling this piece into an upcoming adaptation of The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe.
