What's Back There?

August 2002
Hi-Fi Stream Lo-Fi
by J. Greiner & MG
from The Truth of One
Lead Vocals - J. Holdridge
All Others - MG

This piece was great fun to put together. Using the idea of this character’s function in society as a worker, a cog in a machine so to speak, I decided to create an underlying industrial loop from various sound effects including a steam release, an earthquake, and water dripping into a metal bucket. Using this loop as a metronomic backbone, I proceeded to add the rest.

Jacob sings this song after running into Simon. Unlike Celeste in Can’t get Back, Simon cannot remember; his memory has been all but wiped out by years of social and institutional conditioning.

John and I have at least temporarily abandoned The Truth of One and are planning on recycling this piece into an upcoming adaptation of The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe.
